On July 20, Shanghai Electric signed the EPC contract for Philippine Makati Metro in Shanghai. The Philippines' former vice president Jejomar Binay and Mayor of Makati Marlen Binay sent their congratulatory notes through video links. Zhu Yi, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, and Huang Ou, President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai Electric, attended the signing ceremony.
Shanghai Electric Automation Group is entrusted with the mechanical and electrical equipment engineering. It will provide services throughout the process of design, procurement and construction concerning communication, signal, power supply, integrated monitoring, disaster alarm, environment and equipment monitoring, security and access control, ventilation and air conditioning, water supply, drainage and fire protection, automatic fare collection, station auxiliary equipment, and processing equipment and vehicles at the vehicle base (including control center).
Shanghai Electric promised to create a smart-connected operation system that is stable, efficient, safe, and reliable for the Makati Metro by leveraging world-leading expertise in the construction and operation of domestic rail transit systems as well as advanced 5G technologies, automatic train operation, and intelligent O&M platform. The new system will alleviate traffic jams in Makati and coordinate local economic development with environmental protection.
It is a national key project supported by the Philippine government to relieve pressure on Makati's traffic system and promote its economic development that can help secure a better image on the world stage. As the first subway in Makati City, the planned line stretches about 8.3 kilometers long, with eight stations along the way, including two terminals and two interchange stations. Upon completion, the project will connect core areas in Makati. By then, it will alleviate local traffic jams and coordinate economic development with environmental protection.
